Valentine's Day Blind Date Update
First I wanted to thank everyone who commented. And I also wanted to appologize for my explict rantings.
My cousin, the matchmaker, called the jerk to find out what his problem was and he actually repeated to him what he said to me. According to what he told my cousin he had arrived at the restaurant early to get us a table, as it was Valentine's Day and very crowed. But made the mistake of having a couple of drinks while he was waiting. I know, that's no excuse, and even he admits to that, but that was part of the reason he was so forward. My cousin told him he should have thought better of the first impression he made to me and not drank at all. (Two points for cuz) The jerk wanted to know if he should call and appologize to me, and I told my cousin to tell him, thanks but no thanks. The message was received, but I don't wish to speak to him again.
I've been thinking a lot about it since I got the message. I'm not sure if I'm being to hard on him. But right now, all I can think is: Strike 1. He obviously can't hold his liquor (I don't want to date a drunk). Strike 2. He doesn't think before he does or says things (can he visualize FOOT-IN-MOUTH). AND Strike 3. He never really said that's not what he was thinking, just that he wished he had expressed it differently. I'd say that's a total strike out with me. What do you all think?
I hope you all had a better Valentine's Day than I did. And I hope you all have a great weekend. Much love to my cyber-friends for all your support and encouragement. Thanks!

OMG...so I totally missed the first post about the date...what a freaking jerk! Honey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you! You are a strong, independent woman who just won't settle for less than you deserve...think about how many women around our age who are divorced. Had we not "settled", we'd be single at this point too. So, in reality, I think being 40 and single means "You're The Smart One!" lol
Sorry for the long post but this subject really "gets me started". Women don't NEED a man...we can handle ourselves just fine thank you.
I'm impressed with how gracefully you handled that situation...much better than I would have.
Hugs!
You rock!!! Good for you for speaking your mind and being so strong. There are so many women who cower to men and accept the nasty things they say and do. I bet that guy had his mouth open for about 1/2 hour after you left!
I think you hit it right on all points. Nothing about his excuse /explanation is good. Keep on moving in the other direction.
I second LargMarj - I think your first impression of him was the right one... Jerk.
Um, don't second guess your initial reaction- your instincts were spot on! Even if this guy somehow, magically, isn't a jerk, he's still managed three strikes before the end of a date, and that's PLENTY. Like claire said, be proud of how you handled it- I probably would have sat uncomfortably through the date, wondering if this jerk's opinion of me was right... or I would have set the table on fire. Hard to tell. ;)
