Is It Over Yet???

I'm sure anyone who knows me is wondering why I would say something like that. But this weekend I've been in an almost constant state of confusion and exhaustion. Friday started out so well; The weather was finally beginning to break (hurry up spring). Work wasn't as bad as it has been in the past few weeks. And I had plans for Saturday and Sunday. But as is usually the case (Murphy's Law - "What can go wrong, will go wrong!"), by the middle of the day I got a call from a good friend. She was on a deadline and needed my help. So what else could I do but help? Unfortunately what should have taken a few hours ended up taking most of the weekend. I actually just finished about two hours ago. But because of it I missed dinner at "The Melting Pot" Saturday afternoon with friends, a "Grown and Sexy" party Saturday night, and a co-worker's son's first birthday party. Basically, my whole weekend was shot to hell.

In between the work I tried to get some me time. I read my favorite blogs that had updated during the week, and even left a few comments (I'm trying not to be such a lurker). I worked on my new Monkey sock by the fabulous Cookie A.. I made a decision on the scarf pattern and yarn for the ISE4 I joined. I also got a couple of rows done on my mom's Mother's Day present. But that's about all I was able to do.

Now, I'm off to get some more work done on my Monkey sock. I'd really like to have them done before the end of the month for Soctopia and SAM3 KAL.

I'm actually ready, but not looking forward to, going back to work tomorrow.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

I hope everyone has a great day. I'm off to pick up a few presents for my Secret Pal (SP10). Hopefully I can find something that will make her day.

Speaking of SP10, my Secret Pal contacted me a few days ago. (Sorry it took me so long to post about it) This is my first SP, so I hope I don't screw it up and give myself away.

Also, I wanted to publicly thank our hostest for all the work this type of exchange must entail. Thank You Heatherly for all your hard work!!!

Wouldn't You Know It...

Sock Madness started Saturday morning. And my life went into overdrive Saturday afternoon. I had already picked out my yarns, and was ready to begin my socks when I remembered I had made plans to visit a friend/co-worker. He and his wife recently bought a new house, and wanted me to come out and visit. As always is the case with this couple, I had a great time. The only problem is, I got very little knitting done. Then, my boss asked me to work overtime, and like an idiot I agreed. Now, many knitters are done with their socks, and I'm still on sock #1. Oh well! It was a fun idea. I'll have to sit back and enjoy all the other competitors progress.

Good Luck Sock Madness Knitters!

Sock Madness has begun...

The pattern is received, the yarn chosen and wound into balls, the needles freed up from another project, and the Sock Madness has begun. For me, Sock Madness is more a challenge against myself, more so than a challenge against other knitters. I want to push myself and see how many, if any, rounds I can complete within the guidelines of the competition. (I'm not really sure it's considered a competition?)

So far I've already had to cast on and frog my sock three times. But I think I've finally gotten off on the right foot (lol), so to speak. Only time will tell.

Wish me luck!

Man I'm Really Sucking At This SP thing...

Sorry, I did not know before now to post this to my blog by the end of February.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? I don't really have a preference one way or the other. I like all fiber, even acrylic.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? I have a box that I use right now for storing my circs (in their original packaging), and a vase for the few straights I have.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Originally I learned when I was about 4 or 5 from a very nice neighbor. But I didn't stick to it. Over the years I've come back to knitting off and on. Last year I found a LYS and was hooked by all the beautiful fiber.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? No, but I'm thinking about creating one.

5. What's your favorite scent? Lavender and Wisteria. I also love Febreeze's Clean Linen.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? Absolutely!!! I love chocolate, chocolate cherries, chocolate and peanut butter. Are you getting the hint. I love chocolate.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I used to quilt, but it wasn't portable enough for me. I crochet off and on. Some machine embroidery.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) I like most music types, except country and gansta rap. My favorite is R & B/Soul. I have an iPod which is usually attached to my hip at all times.

9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand? My absolute favorite is purple (any shade). I can't stand green.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? Divorced, no children, not really dating. I live with the worlds most spoiled Shitzu (Samantha).

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? All but the mittens. Not much of a fan of Ponchos either, but could get used to them.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? Socks, socks, and more socks.

13. What are you knitting right now? (4)Socks, (2)Clapotis, Drop Stitch Scarf.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts? Absolutely!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? Circular, no preference on kind of circulars.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? Yes.

17. How old is your oldest UFO? One year.

18. What is your favorite holiday? Christmas. I love giving presents.

19. Is there anything that you collect? Anything Betty Boop, and State Beenie Bears.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? I subscribe to Interweave Knits, Vogue Knitting and Knit Simple. I would like to buy any of Cookie's sock patterns, the Lime-n-Violet sock pattern book, and More Sensational Knitted Socks.

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn? DPN knitting in the round.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? Yes! I wear a size 9 shoe.

23. When is your birthday? 9-20.

Am I Insane?

Don't answer that. I already know I'm insane. And a joiner. I just joined Sock Madness. There's probably no way I'll get past the first round, but I'm certainly going to try. Since my job has taken away my ability to knit during work, except on breaks, I won't have nearly enough time to get my usual amount of knitting done. And I'm also, not a very fast knitter. So you may ask why I joined. I joined because it sounds like this is going to be great fun.

It has been one year since I re-entered the wonderful world of knitting. And all I can say is; "Boy Am I Glad To Be Here!!!"

The Jaywalkers are done. Finally! I finished them on February 28th, with less than 3hrs to spare.

As you can see, as a pair these socks SUCK!! I purchased the yarns at different times. And although they are they same colorway, the dye patterns are completely different. What a goof I am that I didn't realize it until I was halfway through the second attempt at knitting them. Luckily for me though, I have enough left of each ball of yarn to make a mate for each colorway.
Next time I'll definately be more careful about matching the yarns, prior to begining a project.

Wish me luck on that one!
