Site Changes

I've been making a few changes to my blog, with a lot of help from Emmie. I'm adding categories, and links, and shuffling a few things around. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I'm getting there. I forgot how much fun it is to play on the computer. Lately most of my free time has been spent knitting. Not that that's a bad thing. But, fooling around with the blogs layout has been a lot of fun. Hopefully I'm doing an okay job at it.

Does anyone have a button they'd like me to add to my blog? If so let me know. I'd be glad to add it.

Gotta go now. I've just got a few hours before I have to pick my dad up from the airport. And I need to put dinner on.

see ya later with a "Clapotis" update.

Busy, Busy, Busy......

This is going to be a very busy weekend for me. My dad is coming in from Arizona to check on my granddad. As my knitting obsession has overtaken my house, I have a lot of re-arranging to do. Most of my yarn is in my dining room right now, so of course that has to be moved. Where to put it??

Also, my sister and her family are coming to town for the holiday, so that adds four more to the party. I'm not sure where I'm going to put all these people. You see I live in modest two bedroom home that is not exactly set up to sleep six. Woo is me, what shall I do?

I live where I live so as not to encourage company. I guess it didn't work this time. Oh well! It's off to work I go.

CLAPOTIS PROGRESS...

I have been knitting away any free moment I could find. I've even taken to knitting on my breaks at work. Which is actually a joke, as I only get one 23 min and two 30 min breaks. Most times I have to forgo one knitting break to eat lunch. And since the time is so short, and I'm not that fast a knitter, I usually only get one row done a break. Also, I have to contend with the looky loo's, and questions. There's one woman in particular who bugs me on a regular basis about making something for her. And my response is always, "If I knit you a garment, you'd have one thing to wear. But if I teach you to knit, you'd have clothing and accessories for a lifetime!" She always just giggles and walks away. I don't know why she thinks I'm joking. "I'M NOT!!!!!"

I'm progressing slowly but surely. It's not looking too bad, to me. And I'm having a ball knitting it. When I first looked at a pic of the Clapotis, I thought, "there is no way a beginner can do this!" Then I read the pattern and thought it didn't look like it was too terribly difficult. So when I actually sat down and started working on it I was so relieved at the ease of it. I just couldn't wait to get to the dropping stitches part of the pattern. That is too much fun.

I'm definately going to be making one of these for my mom for her birthday. I'm not sure what yarn I should use. But I do know that I want her to be able to wear it to "Red Hatter" events.

Any yarn suggestions?

MY CLAPOTIS IS BEGUN!

From the moment I started listening to knitting podcasts I kept hearing about the Clapotis shawl. I finally sat down and looked at the pattern from Knitty.com (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/PATTclapotis.html), and decided I have got to make one of for myself. This is one of the most beautiful shawls I have ever seen. And it even seemed possible for a beginning knitter like myself. As I'm not a big fan of verigated yarns so I decided on a solid purple (of course).

Here is what I have so far:

I hope I'm doing this right. So far so good. At least as far as my un-trained eye can tell.

I didn't realize, at first, that you needed so many stitch markers (18). And of course I only had the five I got free with a magazine. So, as is usually the case with me, I ran out right after work and purchased beads, wire and rings to make my own. They took about an hour to make. And considering I have no idea what I'm doing, I think I did a pretty good job.

Swatches, now what?

Here are a couple of the swatches I have been working on. Not sure I like them at all. The colors are not doing a thing for me. I thought because they had purple in them I'd like them. Wrong!! What am I going to do with these yarns?
Introducing...

I wanted to introduce my baby to the bloging universe. Her name is Samantha. She is the worlds most spoiled Shitzu. At fifteen, this is about all she does now, sleep. Every once in a while, when I first get home from work, she gets excited for about five minutes and jumps all over me and the furniture. Then she settles back into the position you see her in now. Laying down on her denim quilt, with her pillow, on my sofa, with one eye on what her mom is doing. She is just so darn cute sometimes.

She is my heart. Since I don't have any children, she is treated like a baby by my whole family. Even my mom, who is not a fan of animals, call her her grandbaby. Funny huh?

Sometimes the things I find myself doing for her shock even me. And other times they seem so natural. Does that make me crazy? Never mind don't answer that! lol

My first UFO...

Well here it is. I wish I knew what I did wrong with the sizing. It's such a cool coral color. I would love to have been able to wear it this summer.

Shorty
I'M BACK! SORT OF...

My cable modem is down and I have to use dial up to get on line. I hate it sooooooo much!

I've decided to hold off finishing my top, since it doesn't fit anyway. booo hoo :( I thought I did everything right, but it's seems to be a failure none the less. It would have been really cute, I think. I'll try to upload a pic later.
